Keith Relf (born March 22, 1943 in Richmond , Surrey , England , † May 14, 1976 in London ) was an English musician and singer. He was best known as the singer and harmonica player for the band The Yardbirds .

Career

In 1963 he founded the band The Yardbirds , which included Eric Clapton , Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page . With their 1966 album The Yardbirds (also known as Roger the Engineer ) they set new standards in psychedelic blues rock.

At the beginning of 1968 the band no longer had a record in the charts, Jimmy Page wanted to start his own band, just as Relf was planning to do.

On July 7, 1968, Relf disbanded the Yardbirds. As The New Yardbirds , the band existed until the end of the year, because there was still a tour to end. The New Yardbirds were renamed Led Zeppelin in late 1968 . Relf co-founded the band Renaissance , with whom he recorded two albums in 1969 and 1970. The singer of this band was his sister Jane Relf .

Relf's next band was Armageddon in 1975 . Before the second album was recorded, Relf died in his apartment after being electrocuted from an ungrounded electric guitar.
