Ilona Rolfes

Ilona Rolfes (* 1973 in Hagen ) is a German professor of electrical engineering and currently head of the chair for high frequency systems at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Professional career

Rolfes completed a degree in electrical engineering and information technology at the Ruhr University in Bochum . From 1997 to 2005 she then worked at the Bochum Institute for High Frequency Technology as a research assistant . In 2002 she did her doctorate in the field of high-frequency precision measurement technology. Her dissertation was entitled Methods for the Precision Measurement of the Scattering and Noise Parameters of Linear Two-Port in the Microwave Range . In mid-2005 she accepted a junior professorship at the Leibniz University of Hanover . From the beginning of 2006 she headed the Institute for High Frequency Technology and Radio Systems there. In 2010 she returned to the Ruhr University Bochum, where she heads the chair for high frequency systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Her main research interests are vector network analysis , material and noise characterization, sensors for radar systems and wireless communication systems .

Rolfes is a member of various commissions of the VDE and the IEEE and belongs to the executive committee of the German University Association .

In 2001 she was awarded the European Microwave Prize for her research work and the EEEfCOM Innovation Prize in 2009. In 2011 she received the Outstanding Young Engineer Award from the IEEE .
