Ilse Rohnacher

Ilse Rohnacher (born July 12, 1926 in Heidelberg ; † May 22, 2016 in Heidelberg) was a German author and dialect poet .

biography

Ilse Rohnacher was born in Heidelberg in 1926. She spent part of her childhood in Kaiserslautern and Heidelberg. After leaving school, she first trained as a translator, then studied art in Mainz and then studied social pedagogy . She worked in Mannheim for several years .

Since 1996 Ilse Rohnacher has been a lecturer at the Academy for Elderly in Heidelberg. There she taught the development of the dialect and offered workshops for Palatine dialect literature until she retired in 2009.

Together with Marliese Echner-Klingmann , she published three volumes of poetry in the Palatinate dialect. She was a regular guest in the “Heidelberger Dialekt” seminar in the German Studies department at Heidelberg University .

Her 1981 award-winning poem “Na un” against xenophobia led to inflammatory articles in the right-wing extremist press about Rohnacher.

Rohnacher lived in the Ziegelhausen district of Heidelberg until her death .

  • 1981–1995: 13-time winner of the Palatinate Dialect Competition in Bockenheim an der Weinstrasse
  • 1986–1993: 5 times prizewinner for poetry and prose at the dialect competition of the district of Karlsruhe
