The semi-detached house Im Böckmannsbusch 31/33 (formerly Oberbergische Straße 89c – f ) is one of the oldest stone residential buildings still in existence in Wuppertal . It is located in the Kothen residential area of the Barmen district .

The two-story house is provided with a gable roof , the gable triangles are slated. The house, built from rubble stones , is elongated and around 28 meters long and nine meters wide. Above a high basement, access is made possible by four outside stairs on the eastern side. The Auer Bach flows past to the west of the house.

history

According to the Lower Monument Authority , the house was built in the second half of the 18th century and originally consisted of four separate residential units. The outbuilding of Hof Böckmann was used both as a residence and as an early industrial production facility. According to another source, the stone house is mentioned as early as 1620 and was called "Nonnenklösterle" at that time. It possibly served to accommodate clergymen or women from the state. The dendrochronological examination of the oak collar beam in the attic revealed that the year of felling was the winter of 1722/23, so 1723 can be assumed as the year of construction of the roof structure.

Around 1850, the family of the home weaver Carl Wilhelm Enters (1824–1898) lived in the house in two rooms under the roof. His son Hermann Enters (1846–1940), one of the twelve children, later emigrated to America and left his memories of his childhood in the early industrial Wuppertal in a letter. This letter was scientifically evaluated and published for the first time in 1970 through an adaptation by the historian Klaus Goebel . Some of the memories have been used as teaching material in schools.

The Böckmann court house, which was located to the south, was demolished after the Second World War . On October 13, 1987, the house was entered as a monument in the list of monuments.
