Imitation of Life is a song by the US rock band REM. It was the first single from the 2001 album Reveal and reached number 6 in the British charts. The song follows the summery style of the album, influenced by the Beach Boys . The headline Imitation of Life was influenced by the Douglas Sirk film of the same name .
The music video shot by Hammer & Tongs consists of an endless loop that lasts a few seconds and is continuously played back and forth. The pan & scan technique is used to zoom in on certain areas of the image for a short time, whereby details such as lip-synchronicity in individual people become clear. You can see a big garden party around a pond, where the band members are also present.
The song can also be found on the best-of compilation In Time from 2003 and on the live album R.EM Live , which was released in 2007.
