Impetigo was an American death metal / grindcore band from Bloomington in the state of Illinois . Her texts dealt with subjects such as torture , serial murder , cannibalism and death. The lyrical concept provided the band with plenty of black humor . Most of the band's songs begin with intros, some of which come from media reports on legal murder trials. history

The band was founded in 1987 as a hardcore / grindcore band. With the emergence of Death Metal, the music of Impetigo also gradually changed. In 1991 the band got a recording deal with Wild Rags Records . Impetigo broke up after the 1992 album. In an interview, the members admitted to having led the band only as a hobby, but the demand from fans and the music press became too great and it was decided to split up. From the late nineties there was a new boom in demand for the band's music and various live material was released and the sold out albums were re-released via Morbid Records .

In 1992 Stevo started a side project called Church of Misery , the band played Doom Metal . In 1992 the band was renamed Insomnia and broke up after a demo.

Impetigo songs were noticeably often covered by other bands. a. by Purgatory , Sanitys Dawn , Exhumed , Last Days of Humanity , Deceased ... , Haemorrhage , Mortician or Blood . To date, over 40 cover versions are known. The song "Boneyard" was covered most often. A tribute album entitled "Wizards of Gore" was released on the music label Razorback Records .
