Mei Zhu lives with her daughter Hehe and her new partner Lao Xie in a small apartment in a high-rise estate. She works as a real estate agent. Your little daughter Hehe is sick. In the hospital, leukemia is diagnosed. She also informs little Hehe's father, Xiao Lu, of this. Chemotherapy does not work. The little girl's only chance is a bone marrow transplant . Mother Mei Zhu and father Xiao Lu are the first possible donors, but a test shows that their values do not match Hehe. The doctors explain to Mei Zhu that a sibling might be able to save Hehe, but the one-child policy prevents siblings from even being present, as in the Hehe case. Mei Zhu comes to the decision that she would like to have another child from Xiao Lu in order to save Hehe's life. A difficult decision for both parents, as Mei Zhu lives happily with the simple Lao Xie, who behaves like a father to Hehe and is recognized as a father by the girl. Xiao Lu is also happily married to the stewardess Dong Fan. Dong Fan has been wishing for a child from Xiao Lu for some time and now his ex-wife is more likely to become his mother again than she herself. This leads to a crisis in this relationship. However, when Dong Fan met Hehe, she gave her husband permission to donate sperm for Mei Zhu.
However, artificial insemination fails. However, Mei Zhu does not stop having a child from Xiao Lu. The only chance is to achieve fertilization naturally. Mei Zhu does not want to inform her partner about this and Xiao Lu should also refrain from doing so. In this way, their relationships would not be unnecessarily burdened and Hehe could still be saved. But Xiao Lu cannot live with the lie about Dong Fan. However, when he tells her, Dong Fan leaves him. Mei Zhu organizes a meeting with Xiao Lu in an apartment that has not been rented for months and sleeps with Xiao Lu. However, she did not find the keys of her cell phone in her purse and inadvertently called her partner Lao Xie. On the phone, he overhears what is going on in the apartment and quickly recognizes what is going on there. When Mei Zhu returned home, Lao Xie told her that he would be willing to continue living with her if she passed the child to be born as his. Xiao Lu is also surprised by Dong Fan at home. There were technical problems on a flight and she narrowly escaped a flight crash. Her first thought of the little girl Hehe was with death before her eyes. She now also agrees.

Awards
The film took part in the 2008 Berlinale competition. Director and screenwriter Wang Xiaoshuai was awarded the Silver Bear for his script . It is his second Silver Bear after Beijing Bicycle .
