In the pit 121
The former craftsman's house in den Grüben 121 is a monument in Burghausen .
history
The historically significant building In den Grüben 121, or Kirchplatz 20, is essentially from the late Middle Ages . The house was inhabited by several generations of belters in the 18th century . The connecting passage across the street originally led to the in-house toilet facility on the Salzach side. The arch of this connecting passage forms the entrance to the inner pits . The frescoes on the north side around 1935 are by Heinrich Bickel from Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The warning on the slogan “Take care of the streets - you can easily leave your life” is more relevant today than ever, even though the pits themselves are now a pedestrian zone . The sculpture Fährmann by the Burghausen artist Albert Balthasar (1918–1995) can be found near the building .
Building description
The building fabric from the time it was built is well preserved. The three- story gable roof house has a three-step gable and four upper floor axes. The house entrance is arched and the windows are provided with plastered frames. There is a shop fitting on the ground floor. A round-arched elevator hatch in the gable field has meanwhile been changed to an attic window. The two-storey street arch begins on the northeastern part of the facade. This is provided with a saddle roof or on the south side with a pent roof provided and leads to the building to Grüben 119/120. The facade was renewed in the middle of the 20th century. The shop space is spanned by a late Gothic ribbed vault with a renewed keystone, probably from the first half of the 15th century. In a rear part of the house there is a room with a barrel vault and on the first floor there is a hallway with a needle cap barrel and a light shaft.
