In the Deep is a movie song by Michael Becker and Kathleen "Bird" York from the movie LA Crash ( Crash ). The song is sung by Kathleen York under the stage name Bird York . The song was at the Oscars 2006 in the category Best Song for the Oscar nominated.

In the Deep was first released in 2003 on Bird York's album Velvet Hour . One more time it was released on the Wicked Little High album. The first release led to demands not to allow the song. In addition, the song was also heard in another film.

Bird York sang the song during the 2006 Academy Awards ceremony. She performed the song in front of a burning car. The performance was seen as excruciatingly boring and one of the biggest Oscar disasters.
