background

That Dolly Parton wrote this song for the film Transamerica is part of her advocacy for LGBTQ rights. This can be traced back to their 1991 album Eagle When She Flies and the song Family . The fact that she positioned herself as a country star with Travelin 'Thru earned her a lot of hate mail. According to Parton, the song is also inspired by a trans man from Parton's organization.
