Our Town is a song written by Randy Newman for the film Cars . It was interpreted by the artist James Taylor , who also plays guitar on the song. Our Town was awarded a Grammy .

In terms of content, the decline of the fictional city of Radiator Springs on Route 66 is described in Our Town , after the construction of Interstate 40 caused traffic to bypass the city.

The soundtrack for Cars was released by Disney in 2006. In Germany the publication took place at Disney and EMI . Our Town is the fifth of the 20 pieces on the phonogram. "Our City" is sung by Ole Soul on the German soundtrack .

By the time Rany Newman was writing Our Town , he was already known as one of the most brilliant film music composers of his day. He had written the score for numerous films, including the score for Toy Story , Toy Story 2 and Monster AG for Pixar Animation Studios alone . He writes the music as well as the lyrics and does not share this work as usual.

Roger L. Hall judged for the American Music Preservation that the soundtrack for Cars did not come close to Randy Newman's earlier soundtracks for Pixar. Most of the pieces of music are just fillers. The only exception is the nostalgic Our Town , which is played in the nice easygoing style of James Taylor.

Awards

• Grammy Award : At the 2007 Grammy Awards , Our Town was awarded a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Medium . That same evening, Newman won the 34th Annie Award for the entire Cars soundtrack .
• World Soundtrack Awards Our Town won the 2006 World Soundtrack Awards in the Best Original Song Written for Film category .
• Oscar : For the Oscar ceremony in 2007 was Our Town for the best film song was nominated, but had to I Need to Wake Up by Melissa Etheridge in An Inconvenient Truth beaten. Other nominated songs were Listen , Patience and Love You I Do from the movie Dreamgirls .
