ecology
In the headwaters of the Kalksburger Graben there has been damp vegetation with green pond rushes ( Schoenoplectus lacustris ) and water irises ( Iris pseudacorus ) since the 1970s . Beech and hornbeam grow in the forest in the upper reaches . The fox monkshood ( Aconitum lycoctonum subsp. Vulparia ) can be found in their undergrowth . In particular, on the eastern slopes of the stream, towards the sky meadow, there are numerous black pines in which crested tits ( Lophophanes cristatus ) breed. Several plant species that are strictly protected under the Vienna Nature Conservation Act also thrive on the Kalksburger Graben: the broad-leaf forest bird ( Cephalanthera damasonium ), the narrow- leaf forest bird ( Cephalanthera longifolia ), the white forest hyacinth ( Platanthera bifolia ) and the black-germer ( Veratrum) nigrum ).
