List of grape varieties |
The red wine variety Incrocio Manzoni 2.15 is a cross between the white Glera grape (this is the name of the grape variety Prosecco since the beginning of 2010) and the red variety Cabernet Sauvignon . It was created in the 1920s by the Italian breeder Luigi Manzoni at the Conegliano Viticulture Institute . (Incrocio (ital.) = Crossing)
The new breed owes its origin to a coincidence, because Luigi Manzoni actually planned a cross between the two white varieties Glera x Sauvignon Blanc . Due to the mistake of an assistant, the seeds of the red Cabernet Sauvignon were taken for the seedling of the cross partner and a red variety was created.
The red wines that are made from this grape variety are deep red in color, very fine, aromatic but slightly tannic .
