Indeep
Indeep was a New York- based R&B , funk and soul band from the 1980s, best known for their post-disco classic Last Night a DJ Saved My Life .
Career
The band was led by their songwriter Michael Cleveland and was known for their strictly disco musical bass rhythm and early hip-hop elements interpreted by two female singers: Réjane "Reggie" Magloire and Rose Marie Ramsey. Cleveland contributed rap parts to some of the songs .
Last Night a DJ Saved My Life was in 1982 when record label released Sound of New York / Becket Records and reached in the spring of 1983, the number 2 on the Billboard Dance Music / Club Play Singles and # 10 in the US R & B charts. The single was also successful in Europe and came in at number 10 in Germany, number 12 in Austria, number 5 in Switzerland and number 13 in the United Kingdom.
The following single When Boys Talk had noticeably less success on both sides of the Atlantic . The best placement was number 16 on the US dance charts. The tracks Buffalo Bill and The Record Keeps Spinning , which were released in the same year, were still notable hits in the American dance and R&B charts.
Because Last Night a DJ Saved My Life remained the band's only top hit, Indeep is now one of the one-hit wonders . Singer Magloire later had some success with the Belgian techno and house project Technotronic . Last Night a DJ Saved My Life was later covered by Mariah Carey on her 2001 album Glitter .
