Indira Radić , Serbian - Cyrillic Индира Радић (born June 14, 1966 in Dragalovci , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Bosnian - Serbian turbo folk singer . She got her first name after Indira Gandhi .

Life

Radić grew up in Dragalovci, between Prnjavor, Doboj and Banja Luka. She is the only child of her parents Živko and Rosa. Radić first trained as a nurse in Doboj.

She released her first professional album, Nagrada i kazna , in 1992, with the hit Srpkinja je mene majka rodila (meaning: I am the daughter of a Serb). The album was released for Južni Vetar from Belgrade. Indira later released her albums for ZaM and switched to the same label when Grand Production opened .

It is popular in the entire Western Balkans , Slovenia and Bulgaria ; Her songs, sung in Serbian, are often covered by local stars in Macedonian, Bulgarian and Slovenian. Radić not only sings in her mother tongue, but also in Bulgarian in a duet with Ivana . In the successor states of Yugoslavia , the Bosnian Serb was initially particularly successful in Serbia and Montenegro , and through her duets with Alen Islamović she also became known in Bosnia and Herzegovina . With the duet Lopov (with Islamović), she changed her previously rather folk style of music and since then has been bringing in pop and dance rhythms. Since 2004 it has also been organizing more concerts in Croatia and has established itself on the local market without triggering major mass media controversies.

In January 2009 the LGBT internet portal "queeria.com" published that Radić, ahead of the actress Lena Bogdanović (2nd place), the painter Biljana Cincarević (3rd place), the singer Jelena Karleuša (4th place) and others most popular celebrities of 2008, according to the opinion of its visitors. Indira said in an interview for the daily newspaper "ALO!" That she was very happy about the result, that she was against discrimination of any kind, that she stood by her homosexual fans at all times and that she did not believe that her, on the more patriarchal one Balkans, could hurt.
