The Indomptable was a French ship of the line belonging to the tonnant class . It had 80 cannons and was launched on December 20, 1790.

The ship took part in the naval battle of the 13th Prairial and the Battle of Trafalgar . The ship ran aground off Rota two days later in a storm on the night of October 23-24, 1805 . The sinking claimed more than 1,000 lives. Among them were about 500 castaways from the Bucentaure . Only about 180 sailors survived.

It was not until 1936 that a ship named L'Indomptable was returned to service for the French Navy .
