Wigernæs, who started for the Lyn ski , made her debut in Oslo in March 1998 in the cross-country skiing world cup and finished 45th over 30 km classic. She ran her first race in the Continental Cup in December 1998 in Lillehammer , which she finished classically in 19th place over 10 km. In March 2000 she got her first World Cup points in Lahti with 26th place in the sprint and in Oslo with 17th place in the sprint. In the 2000/01 season she came in ten appearances in the World Cup singles, five times in the points. In Brusson and Oslo , she achieved eighth place in the sprint, her best place in the individual World Cup. At the season highlight of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2001 in Lahti, she finished 12th in the sprint. She finished the season in 42nd place in the overall World Cup and in 14th place in the Sprint World Cup.
In the following season Wigernæs succeeded with six results in the points, 50th place in the overall World Cup and 22nd place in the Sprint World Cup. Her best result in the World Cup singles in the 2002/03 season was eighth place over 30 km classic in Oslo . In March 2004 she was fifth in the Wasalauf . In the 2004/05 season she came in the Scandinavian Cup seven times in the top ten. She won second place in the skiathlon in Sundsvall and the 10 km freestyle in Lapinlahti and thus won the overall ranking at the end of the season. After three World Cup appearances with placements outside the points at the beginning of her last active season 2005/06, she finished seventh in the sprint at the Scandinavian Cup in Vuokatti , third over 10 km classic and second over 10 km freestyle. Participation in competitions of the Marathon Cup followed . In January 2006 she took second place at the Marcialonga and won the König-Ludwig-Lauf the following month . In addition, she was seventh at the Birkebeinerrennet in March 2006. In the same month she completed her last World Cup race in Drammen , which she finished in 32nd place in the sprint. At the end of the season she came in 11th place in the overall ranking of the Scandinavian Cup and fifth in the overall ranking of the Marathon Cup. At Norwegian championships she won in 2000 and 2001 with the relay of Lyn Ski and in 2004 and 2005 together with Ella Gjømle in the team sprint. In addition, she was second in 2002 and third in 2005 with the season.
