tasks and activities

Citizen information

The main task of the information offices is to inform the local people in Germany about the activities of the European Parliament and to bring them closer to them. This is ensured, among other things, by means of seminars, conferences or simulation games for schoolchildren and the publication of information brochures. The offices also serve as a point of contact for everything from simple questions to complex research relating to the European Parliament and the EU in general. The offices also establish links with national and regional authorities as well as with representatives from civil society and business.

public relation

The work of the information offices is also aimed at journalists in Germany. Every year, media representatives are invited to Strasbourg or Brussels , for example , so that they can get an impression of how Parliament works and can report competently on the plenary sessions. The offices also provide information on the topics of the respective plenary sessions and provide further relevant information to journalists and the interested public in the form of press releases, newsletters and via social networks on the Internet.

Events

The information offices organize events on their own or in cooperation with other institutions and invite specialist audiences as well as the general public to do so. The so-called midday talks should be mentioned here, for example. The information office invites a MEP to a lunchtime discussion so that he can report on his work in Parliament and discuss current issues with the audience. The information offices also organize the so-called citizen forums. In the series of events organized under the title Mitreden über Europa , citizens are invited to discuss and enter into dialogue with members of the European Parliament , Bundestag or Landtag as well as experts on a specific topic about Europe.

Management partnership

The European Parliament in Germany works together in an administrative partnership with the Federal Government and the European Commission . Aktion Europa was jointly launched as part of the partnership , which aims to involve the citizens of Germany in a dialogue about Europe. As part of Aktion Europa, joint projects with high public profile such as the issuing of publications are carried out. In addition, the partners of the administrative partnership meet regularly at the so-called “European communication round table” with other representatives of the administration at various levels and civil society.
