Inga acrocephala is a species of tree from the subfamily of the mimosa family (Mimosoideae). It is native to Central and South America.

description

Inga acrocephala is a tree up to 20 meters tall with gray-brown, cork-black bark and bare branches. The leaves are three-, rarely four-pair pinnate, the leaflets glabrous. The central axis is 8.2 to 16 centimeters long, wingless or occasionally weakly winged at the transition between the two terminal leaflets. The glands are stalked and jug-shaped, the stipules decrepit.

The inflorescences are dense bunches of grapes or ears and arise in groups of one to three from the leaf axils. The shaft is 2 to 5.5 centimeters long, the rachis 1 to 2.5 centimeters. The flowers are pink or white. The flat fruits are 18 to 32 inches long and 3.5 to 4.2 inches wide.

The species is found from Mexico to the Amazon regions of Peru and Brazil.

The species was first described by Ernst Gottlieb von Steudel in 1843 .
