Ingeborg Kuhler

Ingeborg Kuhler (born May 25, 1943 in Dachau ) is a German architect and university professor . She was the first female design professor at a West German architecture faculty and designed the plans for the State Museum for Technology and Work “Technoseum” in Mannheim .

Life

Ingeborg Kuhler studied 1964–1968 in Krefeld and 1974–1977 at the Technical University of Berlin . From 1978 she initially worked as a freelance architect. In 1984 she was appointed professor at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin, making her the first female design professor at a West German architecture faculty. She taught until October 2008.

One of her best-known works is the Baden-Württemberg “State Museum for Technology and Work” “Technoseum” in Mannheim, planned and built between 1982 and 1990. After she won the national architecture competition in 1982 in both the first and second stages, In 1983 Ingeborg Kuhler was commissioned by the state of Baden-Württemberg to plan the museum. For this planning she was honored with the European Award for Museum Design in 1992. There were already two clients in the competition, the tender was a studio building for the Süddeutscher Rundfunk in Mannheim, planned and built between 1982 and 1988. After the two stages of the competition, the Süddeutsche Rundfunk also commissioned the architect with the building in front of the State Museum in the south.

From 1994 to 1997 Kuhler was a member and chairwoman of the design advisory board of the city of Salzburg . Since 1982 she has given numerous lectures at home and abroad. In addition, she was a juror in prizes at architecture competitions. From 1990 - 2001 design / planning of the single-family house in Berlin-Kladow
