Ingo Karsten

Ingo-Heinz Karsten (born January 21, 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German diplomat who was the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Cambodia from 2016 to 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1974, Karsten began studying economics and law at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel , which he completed in 1979. He then worked from 1980 to 1984 as a research assistant at the Institute for Economic Policy at the University of Kiel, where he completed his doctorate in 1983 with a dissertation entitled International Bank Loans to Developing Countries. In 1984 he began his preparatory service for the higher foreign service and, after completing his training as an attaché, between 1986 and 1990 was initially employed as head of the legal and consular department and cultural advisor at the embassy in Japan and then from 1990 to 1992 as an advisor in the foreign affairs department Office . In August 2016 Karsten succeeded Joachim Freiherr Marschall von Bieberstein as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Cambodia . He handed over his accreditation letter on September 23, 2016. In mid-2019, he handed over the official duties to his successor Christian Berger .

Karsten is married and has one child.
