Ingrid Seifert

Ingrid Seifert (* 1952 near Salzburg ) is an Austrian violinist .

Live and act

Ingrid Seifert studied classical violin at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Jaroslav Suchy and in Vienna with Joseph Sivó (1931–2007). Towards the end of her studies she discovered her interest in the baroque violin . After she had occasionally played with the Concentus Musicus Vienna under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt , thanks to a scholarship she was able to study the baroque violin with Sigiswald Kuijken . Until 1980 she played for a few years in Reinhard Goebel's Musica Antiqua Cologne .

In October 1978 Seifert founded the London Baroque chamber ensemble as the first violinist with the cellist Charles Medlam . Seifert plays a violin from 1661, attributed to Jakob Stainer . She recorded more than 80 CDs with “London Baroque”.

Ingrid Seifert has taught at Trinity College of Music in London, at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, at the Hochschule für Musik Würzburg and she passes on her skills in master classes at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Her son Lucas Medlam (* 1985) is also a violinist after studying physics in the meantime. Sister Hannah Medlam is a singer and violinist, the family occasionally appeared as the "Medlam Quartet".
