Ingrid von Reyher

Ingrid von Reyher (born May 30, 1908 in Riga ; † June 2004 in Mittweida ) was a German chemist who was the first female teacher to teach at the former Mittweida engineering school.

Life

Ingrid von Reyher came from a Baltic German aristocratic family. When she was three years old, her parents moved to Lodz , which became her home. She studied chemistry at the University of Vienna and became a Dr. phil. PhD. Then she worked at the State Hygiene Institute in Lodz. She continued this activity during the German occupation of Poland from 1939 to 1945. For example, she taught well builders in the technique of chemical water analysis.

In February 1945 she came to Mittweida as a war refugee . After the end of the war, she became a new teacher after various sideline jobs . In November 1947 she was employed as the first female teacher at the Mittweida Engineering School . Until 1968 she taught chemistry , physics and materials science . In 1946 Ingrid von Reyher joined the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany . From 1977 to 1989 she was a councilor in Mittweida. As a voluntary registrar, she carried out over 400 weddings. Ingrid von Reyher did an honorary job for the Meteorological Service of the GDR, after reunification in the Federal Republic and carried out observations and measurements. In doing so, she contributed to research into the effects of weather and their influence on the biosphere. In 1992 she received the Federal Cross of Merit for this work.

In 1998 she was the first woman to be granted honorary citizenship of the city of Mittweida for her involvement in shaping public life, for her commitment to teaching and for her voluntary local political activity .

Ingrid von Reyher Prize

In honor of Ingrid von Reyher, the Ingrid von Reyher Prize has been awarded at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences since 2012 to promote equal opportunities for women and men at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. With this price u. a. Regina Fischer in the field of mathematics and the German film producers Erik Hilse and Andreas Hiekel.
