The Klischeefrei initiative is an alliance of education, politics, business, practice and research initiated by the federal government. She advocates choosing a career and course of study free of gender stereotypes. Elke Büdenbender is the patron of the initiative .

The target groups of the Klischeefrei initiative are all organizations and people who are involved in the choice of a career and study course for young people, i.e. actors in early education, schools, universities, career counseling, companies and institutions as well as parents.

On the initiative's web portal, they can find information on gender-sensitive career and study choices and gender-conscious materials. The portal and the service point of the initiative, which is located at the Competence Center Technology-Diversity-Equal Opportunities and the Federal Institute for Vocational Training , are funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research and the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth .

Starting point for founding the initiative

The reason for the foundation of the Klischeefrei initiative is the very pronounced gender segregation on the labor market . Gender and the prevailing role models have a decisive influence on career choices. As a result, most professions are either one-sidedly dominated by men or women. At the same time, there is the greatest shortage of skilled workers, especially in the professions that are strongly segregated by gender.

With the Klischeefrei initiative, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Federal Ministry of Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs together with other actors from politics, education, business, practice and research on December 15, 2016 launched an initiative with which they counteract gender segregation in career choices and in the labor market.

Perceptions of professional suitability are often closely linked to stereotypical role models. As a result, young women and men often limit their career choices. This can lead to structural, economic and individual disadvantages.

From the initiative's point of view, the division of many occupations by gender can only be reduced if it is possible to expand the range of occupations for all genders, to promote individual skills and to take them into account in the labor market regardless of gender. This applies to all professional fields and training paths - both in-company and full-time school-based training professions as well as academic professions. The equal opportunities for all genders should be encouraged by the commitment to the initiative cliché free.

The coalition agreement for the 18th legislative period , which runs from 2013 to 2017, calls for gender-equitable career and study choices for young women and men. In terms of gender equality policy, from the initiative's point of view, this means overcoming the segregation of the training and labor market by gender. This requires a modern career orientation that is free from gender stereotypes.

history

The Klischeefrei initiative goes back to the expert group “Gender equitable choice of career and study” initiated by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth in May 2014.

The Permanent Forum, today's advisory board of the Klischeefrei initiative, emerged from this group (see organization). As a result of the work of the group, a position paper with recommendations for action was published. The goals are to bundle information, network actors and create transparency about relevant measures that contribute to expanding the range of occupations and courses of study for young women and men and, step by step, to dismantle the gender connotation of the professions.

The Klischeefrei initiative started its work in December 2016 - at that time still under the name of “National cooperation for choosing a career and course of study free from gender stereotypes” and currently (as of July 2020) has over 250 partners.

The Klischeefrei initiative is a fixed measure to promote gender equality in the 2030 Agenda , the federal government's sustainability strategy.

organization

In order to establish gender-sensitive career and study choices nationwide, the Permanent Forum with key actors acts as an advisory board for the Klischeefrei initiative. The forum includes the responsible federal ministries ( Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs ; Federal Ministry of Education and Research ; Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth ; Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety ; Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy ), the Federal Association of German Employers' Associations , the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce , the Central Association of German Crafts , the German Trade Union Federation , the Federal Employment Agency , social partners and representatives from federal states, science, practice and business.

The permanent forum has an advisory function, deals with current issues relating to gender-sensitive career and study choices, and collects information and materials (concepts, guidelines, ideas, needs, etc.) for dissemination.

The service point of the Klischeefrei initiative is the central contact point for advice and networking for institutions and active people. The initiative's service point consists of a specialist and press office in the Competence Center Technology-Diversity-Equal Opportunities, as well as an editorial office located at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB).

The service point prepares information such as gender-sensitive measures, materials and examples of successful practice, professionally and editorially and makes them available on the portal. It also organizes the annual specialist meetings of the Klischeefrei initiative. The Klischeefrei initiative also works closely with the Girls'Day - Girls 'Future Day and Boys'Day - Boys' Future Day - the nationwide career orientation days for boys and girls.

Partners of the Klischeefrei initiative
