The Inkisi (sometimes also Zadi ) is a river in Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo . It is the last major tributary of the Congo before its mouth.

The river has its sources in Angola. Its two source rivers Longe and Luquiche have their source in the area around Bungo on a high plateau at an altitude of about 1250 m. The rivers run parallel to each other towards the north at a short distance. They unite about 60 km from the border. The Inkisi flows further north through the city of Inkisi . Shortly before the mouth, it falls down the Zongo Falls and is used a little later in the Zongo power station to generate energy. It finally flows into the Congo 70 km southwest of Kinshasa .

Name meaning

Inkisi is derived from the Kikongo word nkisi = "magic, witchcraft, enchantment".

Naming

The individual sections of the river system are named differently on different maps. Some maps show the river in Angola under the name Zadi . On older maps it bears this name partly throughout the entire course. The Luquiche also bears the double name Zadi-Luquiche and is therefore sometimes represented as the actual source river.
