Inspector Hornleigh intervenes ... is a four-part German television short series from WDR from 1961. The concept is based on the cinema character from the films Inspector Hornleigh on Holiday (1939) and Inspector Hornleigh Goes to It (1941), directed by Walter Forde .

background

The screenplay for the four episodes came from John Wynn, pseudonym of Hans W. Priwin, who took British citizenship in 1948 and Anglicized his name. In the 1950s he developed the quiz show Brain of Britain for the BBC . In the series, the Scotland Yard inspector Hornleigh (Helmut Peine) investigates various criminal cases. Before he clears up the act, the broadcast is interrupted. This gave the audience the opportunity to look for the perpetrator themselves. The audience now had two minutes to make their own considerations; During this time the pictures of the suspects were shown again, after which the solution was presented.

On Inspector Horn Leigh intervenes followed similar Mitrate series such as Crime Quiz - Amateur detectives compete and Crime Club - amateur detectives ( ZDF , 1964-65, and Commissioner-Kollin club ) or Crimes of the track ( NDR , 1967- 73).

action

All of the episodes in the series had a framework plot; Paul Klinger hosts a small private evening party to which he presents Hornleigh's cases. Before the investigation, he lets them review the suspect again. Inspector Hornleigh clears up the case in all details at the end and there is a flashback in every episode of how the act happened.

production

In production, efforts were made to create a British atmosphere; this was done, among other things, by means of the intermittent pictures of London - Thames , Big Ben and the Scotland Yard building. The set images came from Alfred Bütow and Alfons Windau , who also worked on the Durbridge films by WDR. Production manager and director Hermann Pfeiffer engaged a number of actors in guest roles who were known from WDR Durbridge productions (TV film or radio play), such as Siegfried Wischnewski , Manfred Heidmann , Alf Marholm , Werner Schumacher , Alwin Joachim Meyer , Manfred Inger , Irmgard Först , Magda Hennings , Curt Faber , P. Walter Jacob , Gerhard Becker , Friedrich W. Bauschulte , Bernd M. Bausch , Alfred Abel-Adermann , Frank Barufski , Kaspar Brüninghaus , Ellen Mahlke and Joachim Teege .

publication

Around the cases of Inspector Hornleigh , WDR 1963 and BR (1960-65) each produced a six-part radio play series with Helmut Peine (WDR, also directed by Hermann Pfeiffer) and with Paul Dahlke and then Karl Schönböck (BR). In 2011 the series was released on DVD by Pidax Film.
