InterCity (Spain)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

InterCity (short form IC ) is a type of train in domestic long-distance traffic that was used in Spain until 2008 and since 2012.

Until 2008

Most recently, RENFE only operated the line from Madrid Chamartín station via Valladolid , Burgos , Miranda de Ebro and Vitoria-Gasteiz to Irun on the French border with an electric railcar of the 448 series under this name . Since the timetable change on December 14, 2008, the InterCity brand is no longer used in Spain. Spanish long-distance transport is now mainly operated by RENFE with high-speed trains of the AVE and Alvia brands as well as niche products such as Euromed coped.

Since 2012

In 2012 the renfe revived the Intercity train type, it now serves as a hybrid between Media Distancia and Larga Distancia, i.e. an intermediate piece between high-quality regional and long-distance transport. Most trains from the 121, 449 and 599 series are now used, but also locomotive-hauled trains. Among other things, the trains of the Diurno category were converted from long-distance traffic to Intercity.
