International Biographical Center
The International Biographical Center (also International Biographical Association ), based in Ely , Cambridgeshire , UK, is part of Melrose Press Ltd. owned company that publishes biographical reference works ( personal encyclopedias ) and trades in titles and fantasy certificates.
Biographical reference works
According to the company, a separate research service is maintained in order to obtain information about relevant people. However, the entries themselves are based on information provided by the persons listed and approved by them. According to the company, the entries cannot be bought, but are only made on the basis of personal achievements and earnings. That is correct in principle. However, people who pay to be included will be given a more extensive listing and will be offered awards specially made for them. Invitations to register are sent out to anyone suggested by anyone else. The reference works created in this way are offered on the book market. In addition to dubious selection criteria, critics criticize the unrepresentative origin of the people listed (probably due to the procedure and company representation) and the lack of many important people, for example from German-speaking countries.
