International independent Christian youth

The International Independent Christian Youth ( en . : International Independent Christian Youth , fr . : Jeunesse Indépendante Chrétienne International , official abbreviation: JICI ) is an international youth organization in the Roman Catholic Church . The association of believers recognized by the Holy See was founded in 1931 and includes 8 other member movements in 8 countries with a total of around 6,000 people.

history

The JICI emerged in the 1930s within the Catholic Action , its members mainly belonged to the middle class , the bourgeoisie and the nobility . The results of the Second Vatican Council in 1964 essentially led to an international opening. Associations and movements from Spain , the Netherlands , Belgium and Switzerland agreed on international cooperation. The European associations develop their activities and establish connections with diocesan curiae in Africa and Madagascar . The first global conference with representatives from Europe , Africa and America took place in San Sebastián (Spain) . The JICI was recognized by the Pontifical Council for Laity as an international Catholic organization under papal law.

Self-image

The young members should be prepared for responsible positions in social, economic and cultural life. The movement lives togetherness in faith and Christian life. A tried and tested method of pedagogy is the collective contemplation of life, the " Révision de vie ", as it is also called, stands in the light of the Gospel and represents a means to help one's own life.

Organization and expansion

The highest organ is the General Assembly , which is convened every four years and elects the International Committee. The International Committee is headed by a President, assisted by the General Secretary as Managing Director, another Secretary, the Treasurer and the International Ecclesiastical Assistant . The JICI has 8 member movements worldwide with approximately 6,000 people, they are represented in Africa, Europe, Oceania and South America .
