from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hans von Bülow International Piano Competition is a worldwide competition for young pianists and conductors that is held in Meiningen .

The competition has been held every three years since 2012 in honor of the conductor and composer Hans von Bülow . Hans von Bülow worked in Meiningen from 1880 to 1885 and formed the then Meiningen court orchestra into an elite European orchestra. He then established the great tradition of the Berlin Philharmonic . The International Piano Competition is also a continuation of the traditional Meiningen music history. The organizers of the event are the Hans-von-Bülow-Gesellschaft eV and the Meiningen museums . The venues are the “ Johannes Brahms ” concert hall in the Schlosskirche and the Meiningen State Theater .

The competition was initially carried out in three, from 2015 in four categories. A globally unique peculiarity is conducting the piano, which Bülow practiced himself. In the finals, the competition participants appear with the Meininger court orchestra.
