Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 1980

The 22nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival took place in the Czech Republic from June 27 to July 10, 1980 under the motto " For noble relationships between people, for lasting friendship between peoples ". The film festival presented a total of 154 films in various categories, which were seen by over 100,000 visitors. 33 films from 33 countries competed for the main prize, the crystal globe; 13 films from 13 countries competed for the best debut film. In addition to artists and journalists from 57 countries, there was an international jury chaired by Professor Antonín Martin Brousil (ČSSR).

Other jury members were: Juan Antonio Bardem (Spain), Lyudmila Gurtschenko (USSR), Jerzy Hoffman (Poland), Emil Petrow (Bulgaria), Giovanna Ralli (Italy), Ousmane Sembène (Senegal), Mrinal Sen (India), Jiří Sequens ( ČSSR), Jozef Šimončič (ČSSR) and Luandino Vieira (Angola).
