Ioannis Frantzis

Ioannis Frantzis ( Greek Ιωάννης Φραντζής ; born August 19, 1909 in Athens , † July 31, 1984 in ibid) was a Greek diplomat .

Life

Private

Frantzis was the son of Magdalena and Ambrose Frantzis, who was General Military Attache at the Legation in London in 1920 . In England Ioannis Frantzis attended Dulwich College . From 1929 to 1931 he studied at the University of Athens .

In 1957 he married Fani Argenti.

Political career

In 1931 Frantzis joined the Foreign Service.

In 1935 he became Vice Consul in Avlona, Albania . From 1938 to 1940 he had exequatur as consul general in Cairo. In 1940 he joined the Greek Middle East Army as a volunteer. He took part in the battles of El Alamein in 1942 as a lieutenant candidate of the First Greek Brigade. From October 18, 1944 to January 3, 1945 he was head of the office of Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou , first in exile in Cairo and later in Lebanon. In 1945 he was the liaison officer between the regent and the Foreign Ministry. During the Paris Peace Conference in 1946 he was the office manager of the Prime Minister Konstantinos Tsaldaris . During the Greek Civil War , he was briefly General Director of the Ministry for Northern Greece under Dimitrios Rodopoulos in 1947. In 1948 he was chargé d'affaires in Pretoria ( South African Union ). From 1948 to September 1950 he served as Counselor in Washington, DC From September 1950 to 1953 he headed the Department of Diplomacy in the State Department. From 1953 he was permanent representative of the Greek government in Paris and Strasbourg at the Council of Europe . From 1953 to February 1958 he was in charge of public relations at the embassy in London. From February 1958 to September 12, 1963 he was a member of the Greek delegation to the EEC-Turkey Association Agreement . In 1964 he headed the European Cooperation Department. From 1965 to 1967 he was the Greek ambassador in New Delhi (India).

In July 1967 he was after 35 years of service in the retirement staggered.
