Ion Pârcălab or - official spelling from 1953 to 1993 - Ion Pîrcălab (born November 5, 1941 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player . The striker played a total of 315 games in Romanian Divizia A and French Division 1 . As a national player, he took part in the 1964 Olympic Games .

Career as a player

Ion Pârcălab began his career in 1958 at UTA Arad , when he moved up to the first team and played his first game in the Romanian top division, Divizia A (now League 1 ), on May 24, 1959 . While he was initially only used irregularly, he achieved the breakthrough in the 1960/61 season when he was able to score ten goals.

In the summer of 1961 Pârcălab moved to the Romanian top club Dinamo Bucharest . He was involved in how Dinamo became the most successful Romanian club of the 1960s, winning the Romanian championship four times in a row from 1962 to 1965 and the Romanian Cup in 1964 and 1968 .

In 1970 Pârcălab had the opportunity to move abroad, where he joined Olympique Nîmes in the French Division 1 . There he was able to win the runner-up behind Olympique Marseille in the 1971/72 season . In 1973 he ended his active career there.

National team

Pârcălab played 38 games for the Romanian national football team , scoring five goals. He made his debut on October 8, 1961 in a friendly against Turkey . At first he was only used sporadically, but from 1963 he was a regular player. He was in Romania's squad for the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , where he was used in five games and scored two goals.

His last international match played Pârcălab on November 6, 1968 in a friendly against the reigning world champions England .

Career as a coach

After the end of his active career Pârcălab worked as a coach, but mostly looked after youth teams and was only head coach of the first team at Gloria Buzău .
