Iona Emmanuilowitsch Jakir
Iona Yakir ( Russian Иона Эммануилович Якир * 3 . Jul / 15. August 1896 greg. In Kishinev , Bessarabia Governorate in the Russian Empire ; † 12. June 1937 in Moscow ) was a high-ranking Soviet military leader ( commander, First Class of the Red Army ). In 1930 he was a candidate for the Central Committee of the CPSU (b) and in 1934 became a full member of the Central Committee. During the " Great Terror " he was one of the defendants in the so-called "Trial of the Generals", the third of the Moscow trials .
Life
Jakir studied at the Technological Institute in Kharkov . In the civil war he fought for Kishinev and Voronezh in the south . He served in various posts in the 8th Army between 1918 and 1919. During the Polish-Soviet War , he commanded the Fastow and Lwow Army Group. At the end of 1920 Jakir commanded the military operation against the Petljura units in Ukraine and received an honor weapon for their destruction . From 1924 to 1925 he was the head of the headquarters of the Red Army War Schools . From 1925 to 1937 he commanded the Kiev military district .
During the years of cooperation with the Reichswehr , Jakir took part in a leadership training course in Germany in 1928/29 .
His son Pyotr Jakir and his wife Sarra Lazarevna were arrested after his own arrest and sentenced to long stays in the Gulag . Jakir himself was sentenced to death and shot in the military trial in Moscow .
