Iosif Szasz

Iosif Szasz (born May 16, 1932 in Bonțida , Cluj County ) is a former Romanian politician of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) and from 1965 PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) , who was a candidate for the Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee (ZK) of the PCR and from November to December 1989 Secretary of the Central Committee.

Life

Szasz, who belongs to the minority of the Magyars in Romania , worked as a locksmith and joined the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) as a member in July 1953 . After studying for a year at the Komsomol University in Moscow in 1959, he worked between 1959 and November 1965 as the Secretary for Propaganda and Agitation of the Brașov Region Party Committee . He was then from November 1965 to March 1968 First Deputy Head of the Organization Department of the Party Committee of the Brașov Region and from March 1968 to March 16, 1971 instructor of the Central Committee.

Then Szasz, who also studied at the Faculty of Economics at the Academy of Social and Political Sciences " Ștefan Gheorghiu " , was deputy head of the Central Committee's department for organization between March 16, 1971 and 1978, and from October 1978 to 17 January 1987 First Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Executive Committee of the People's Council in Harghita County . Szasz became a candidate for the Central Committee of the PCR on July 21, 1972.

At the twelfth party congress of the PCR from November 19 to 23, 1979 , he became a member of the Central Committee of the PCR and was a member of this body until the revolution on December 22, 1989 . At the same time, he also became a candidate for the Political Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the PCR and remained in this position until December 22, 1989.

In 1980 he also became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and represented the constituency of Miercurea Ciuc-Nord No. 1 until December 22, 1989 . During his membership in parliament he was also Vice-President of the Grand National Assembly between March 28, 1980 and December 22, 1989. He was also from January 17, 1987 to December 1, 1989 First Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Executive Committee of the People's Council in the Caraş-Severin district .

Most recently, Szasz was also secretary of the Central Committee of the PCR between November 3 and December 22, 1989, and from December 1 to 22, 1989, he was also the President of the Central Council for the control of the work of economic and social activities.

For his many years of service, Szasz was awarded the Star of the People's Republic of Romania Second Class (Ordinul Steaua Republicii Socialiste Române) in 1949 .
