Bonțida [ ˈbont͡sia ] (outdated Bonțîda; German Bonisbruck or Bruck , Hungarian Bonchida ) is a municipality in the Cluj County , in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Bonțida is located approximately in the northern half of the Transylvanian Basin on both sides of the lower reaches of the Someșul Mic (Little Somesch) . The community center is located on the right bank of the Little Somesch , on Drum național 1C and the Apahida – Dej railway 19 kilometers south of Gherla (New Castle) and about 30 kilometers north of the district capital of Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) .
history
The place Bonțida was first mentioned in documents in 1245 or 1263, according to different sources, and belonged to the Hungarian noble family Csák , later to the noble family Bánffy, with Transylvanian Saxons living among the free residents .
According to E. Orosz, archaeological finds that indicate a settlement of Bonțida up to the Neolithic Age were made on the area called Podărie (Hungarian Pados ) by the locals . Both in the incorporated village of Coasta (Hungarian Gyulatelke ) and in Răscruci (Hungarian Válaszút ), archaeological finds from the Bronze Age were made at the mouth of the Borşa brook in the Someşul Mic .
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's community belonged to the chair district Kolozsvár in County Cluj , then the historic district of Cluj and from 1950 to today's Cluj County at.

Since 1850, the highest number of inhabitants in the area of today's municipality was determined in 1956. The highest population was Romanians (3896) in 1977, Magyars (2859) in 1941, Roma in 2011 and Romanian Germans (89) in 1900. Furthermore, in almost every recording, individual residents identified themselves as Ukrainians , Serbs or Slovaks .
Attractions
- The Gothic Reformed Church with Renaissance elements in Bonțida, built in the 13th century and the wooden bell tower in the 19th century, are listed buildings.
- The former baroque castle Bánffy , was built in 1652 by the Italian builder Augostino Serena , rebuilt and expanded again and again from 1750 to 1850, is a listed building. The last owner was the large landowner and politician Miklós Bánffy . The Electric Castle music festival has been taking place here since 2013 .
- In the incorporated village of Coasta, the Dujardin manor , built at the end of the 18th century, today the village school, is a listed building. The village has been inhabited by Romanians since around 1600, with a church built in 1669.
- In the incorporated village of Răscruci , the reformed church built in the 17th century and the Bánffy manor house with its park in the 18th century, are listed buildings.
