Călărași (outdated Hărastăș ; German Waldern , Hungarian Harasztos ) is a municipality in Cluj County , in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Călărași is located in the west of the Transylvanian Basin in the southeast of the Cluj County. The place Călărași is located on the Grindu brook - a right tributary of the Mureș - on the district road (Drum județean) DJ 161B and the Cluj-Napoca – Războieni railway about 12 kilometers south of the city of Turda (Thorenburg) and the Romanian A3 motorway . The district capital Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) is located about 45 kilometers northwest of Călărași.
The air base 71 "General Emanoil Ionescu" of the Romanian air force is located near the incorporated village of Călărași-Gară .
history
The place Călărași was first mentioned in 1291. According to C. Gooss, Grigore Tocilescu and Márton Roska, archaeological finds on the site can be dated to the late Bronze Age . According to Gabor Téglás, there was a Roman settlement northwest of Călărași and, according to JM Ackner , B. Orban and C. Gooss, a Roman road that led from Apulum to Potaissa .
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Felvinc chair district in the Torda-Aranyos County , then to the historical Turda district and from 1950 to the present-day Cluj district.

Since 1850 the highest number of inhabitants in the area of today's municipality was determined in 1977, at the same time that of Romanians and Romanian Germans. The highest population of the Magyars (1265) was registered in 1966 and that of the Roma (76) in 1930.
