Nokia in Juncu

In the summer of 2007, the creation of an industrial area began, in which the Romanian state invested around 33 million euros. The mobile phone manufacturer Nokia started production here in February 2008. Nokia uses 90 hectares of the 159 hectares of the industrial area. The Nokia factory in Cluj replaced the planned Nokia factory in Bochum . The head of the plant in Jucu, John Gerry , said, however, that the time coincidence was only coincidental and that Jucu mainly produced cell phones for the Eastern European market.

In the course of the development of the industrial park and the related land speculation, the mayor Petre Coste was suspended and arrested in 2007 on charges of corruption.

Nokia announced in September 2011 that the location in Romania will be closed at the end of 2011.
