Suatu (obsolete Soat or Soatu ; Hungarian Magyarszovát or Czege ) is a municipality in the Cluj district , in Transylvania , Romania .

Geographical location

Location of the Suatu municipality in Cluj County

The municipality of Suatu is located in the Transylvanian Heath (Câmpia Transilvaniei) - part of the Transylvanian Basin . In the east of the Cluj district on the stream of the same name and on the district road (drum județean) DJ 161H, the town of Suatu is about 40 kilometers east of the district capital of Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) .

history

The place Suatu was first mentioned in 1213. Archaeological finds on the area called Fânațele de Jos indicate that the place was settled as far back as the Bronze and Roman Ages and at Dijmași in the Roman times. On the area called Somoșa by the locals, necropolis point to the 4th century. Several coins from the Latène period are now in a Budapest museum. In the incorporated village of Aruncuta (Goldbrunn) , archaeological finds on the area called Cremeniș , Cânepiște and Râtu Oii also point to settlement as far back as Roman times.

In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's community was in the chair district Mocs (now Mociu ) in the County of Cluj . Subsequently, the municipality belonged to the historical Cluj District and from 1950 to the present Cluj District.

Today's village of Suatu is made up of Suatul de Jos ( Alsószovát ) and Suatul de Sus ( Felsőszovát ) only from 1905 , both places belonging to the Hungarian aristocratic Suki family .

Since 1850 the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Romanians, the Magyars and the Romanian Germans were registered in the area of ​​today's municipality in 1941. The highest number of Roma inhabitants was registered in 2011.

The main occupation of the population is agriculture and livestock.

Attractions

  • In Suatu (Suatul de Sus) the Unitarian church built in the 15th century is a listed building. The wolf coat of arms of the Hungarian aristocratic Suki family is attached to the ends of the columns . In (Suatul de Jos) is the reformed church built in 1682, inside the coat of arms of the Hungarian noble family Bornemisza von Jenő .
  • In unincorporated village Aruncuta (Hungarian Aranykút ) once Greek Catholic church built in 1928, is a 1948 Orthodox Church .
  • On the area of ​​the municipality of Suatu there is an approximately 70 hectare reservoir, which is also used for fishing.
