Călățele [ ˈkələt͡sele ] ( Kiskalota in Hungarian ) is a municipality in the Cluj County , in Transylvania , Romania .

The place is also known under the Hungarian name Kelecel .

Geographical location

The municipality of Călățele consists of five villages and is located on an area of ​​about 7400 hectares in the northeastern foothills of the Vlădeasa Mountains and the northern foothills of the Gilăuer Mountains (Munții Gilăului) - mountain ranges of the Apuseni Mountains (Munții Apuseni) . The upper reaches of Calata - a left tributary of the rapids Kreischberg - on the west of Cluj and the Drum naţional 1R , the community center is located about 15 kilometers south of the small town Huedin and about 65 kilometers west of the district capital of Cluj-Napoca (Cluj) away .

history

The place Călățele was first mentioned in 1408 and was a serf village of the Hungarian noble family Valkai from today's village Văleni (Walken) . According to the Romanian Ministry of Culture, settlement at Varful Gilmeii in the incorporated village of Călata goes back to the Neolithic .

Archaeological finds near Beretău in the incorporated village of Văleni, consisting of four gold rings, three of which are in a museum in Vienna and one in a Budapest museum, point to the Bronze Age , according to Johann Michael Ackner , Ferdinand Neigebaur , József Hampel and Márton Roska .

The main occupation of the population is cattle breeding and agriculture on their own farm, as well as the timber industry.

  • In the incorporated village of Văleni, the reformed church built in the 12th century and renovated in the 15th is a listed building.
