Geaca [ ˈd͡ʒeaca ] ( Hungarian Gyeke ) is a municipality in Cluj County , in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Geaca is located in the Transylvanian Basin in the east of the Cluj district. On the upper reaches of the Fizeș - a right tributary of the Someșul Mic -, on the lake of the same name and on the district road (Drum județean) DJ 109C, the community center is about 30 kilometers southeast of the city of Gherla ( New Castle ) and 50 kilometers east of the district capital Cluj. Napoca (Cluj) away.
On the area of the municipality there are several lakes on an area of about 112.50 hectares.
history
The place Geaca was first mentioned in a document in 1213 or 1228, according to different sources. In the Middle Ages the place was owned by the Hungarian noble families Wesselényi and Kornis . According to M. Roska, archaeological finds in the incorporated village of Lacu ( Feketelak in Hungarian ) point back to the early Bronze Age as a settlement in the region . Numerous archaeological finds were also found on the area of the incorporated village of Sucutard (Hungarian Vasszentgothárd ).
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's community belonged to the chair district Teke in the County Cluj , then the historic district of Cluj and from 1950 to today's Cluj County at.

Since 1850 the highest number of inhabitants and also that of the Romanians in 1956 was determined in the area of today's municipality. The highest population of the Magyars (1,157) was registered in 1910, the Roma (126) in 1930 and that of the Romanian Germans (20) in 1880.

- In the community center the country house of the Hungarian noble family Béldy , built in the 19th century, is a listed building.
- In the incorporated village of Lacu, the wooden church Cuvioasa Paraschiva , built in 1771, is a listed building.
- In the incorporated village of Legii (Hungarian Légen ) the reformed church , built in 1849, is a listed building.
- On the area of the incorporated village of Legii (Hungarian Légen ), there is the approximately 128 hectare Valea Legiilor nature reserve of IUCN Category IV . Here you can find the bittern among the birds and the chess flower among the plants . The municipality has issued stricter rules for 23.9 hectares of the nature reserve.
