Câțcău old spelling Cîțcău [ ˈkɨtzkəu ] ( Hungarian Kackó 'Katzko' ) is a municipality in Cluj County , in Transylvania , Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Câțcău is located north of the river Someș (Somesch) in the southern foothills of the Dealurile Ciceulu , in the northwest of the Transylvanian Basin in the north of the Cluj district. The community center is located on Drum național 1C (here also European route 58 ) and the Dej – Jibou railway line ten kilometers northeast of the city of Dej (Deesch) and about 65 kilometers from the district capital of Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg) .
history
The place Câțcău was first mentioned in 1348. Around 1750, Hungarian freelance farmers and petty aristocrats founded the Reformed parish in the village . According to E. Orosz, archaeological finds on the area of the town of Câ Muncău or the incorporated town of Muncel (Hungarian Kishavas ) near Moara lui Drăgan and Fântânele point back to the Bronze or Neolithic Age .
According to the Romanian Ministry of Culture, on the area of the incorporated village of Muncel, called Muchia Poienii Lupului and Muncelul Sălișcăi by the locals , there is a fortified settlement that has not yet been historically interpreted.
In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Dés chair district in the Szolnok-Doboka County , then to the historical Someș district and, from 1950, to today's Cluj district.

Since 1850 the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Romanians in 1966 have been determined in the area of today's municipality. The highest population of the Magyars (457) was registered in 1941, that of the Roma in 1850 and that of the Romanian Germans (6) in 1930.
The main occupation of the population is livestock and agriculture.
Attractions
- In the incorporated village of Sălișca (Winddorf), the wooden church Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavril , built according to various statements in 1680 or 1760/70 with beautiful furnishings from 1790, and a tower from the Roman era at the Muncelu area mentioned , are listed.
- In the incorporated village of Muncel the wooden church Sf. Nicolae built around 1700, is a listed building.
- The Reformed Church in Sălișca, built in 1912.
