Iossif Wikentjewitsch Kossior (russ. Иосиф Викентьевич Косиор ; born January 31, jul. / 12. February  1893 greg. In Węgrów , † 3. July 1937 ) was a Soviet politician and economic functionary; younger brother of Stanislaw Wikentjewitsch Kossior .

Life

Kossior was born into a working class family. He himself worked as a metal worker. In 1908 he joined the RSDLP and was active for them in Donbass . Because of his political activities, he was repeatedly subjected to repression. In 1912 he was exiled to the Yeniseisk governorate . At the beginning of 1917 he was able to flee and went to Moscow to work in the Oblast Office of the RSDLP (Bolsheviks). Kossior took part in the preparation and implementation of the October Revolution in Moscow. He was chairman of the Military Revolutionary Committee of the Samoskvoreetsky Raion in Moscow and then chairman of the Rajonsoviet. During the Russian Civil War , from 1918 to 1920, Kossior was commissioner of a division on the Southern Front and a member of the Revolutionary War Soviet of the Ninth and Twelfth Armies. From 1920 to 1922 he was the commander of the Caucasian labor army.

In 1923 Kossior was chairman of the Grosneft Trust ( Грознефть ; Grozny Öl) and in 1926 chairman of the supervisory board of the Yugostal Trust ( Югосталь ; German Südstahl ). In 1927 he became deputy chairman of the Supreme Economic Council of the USSR, in 1930 chairman of the board of the Vostokstal Trust ( Востоксталь ; German East Steel ) and in 1931 head of the section for fuel industry and deputy people's commissar for heavy industry of the USSR. From 1933 Kossior was the representative of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR in the Far East Krai .

He was a delegate of the XIV. And the XV. Party congress. He was a candidate from 1925 to 1927, then from 1927 a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU. Kossior was also a member of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR.

Kossior died in a sanatorium near Moscow. He was buried in the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow.

Honors

Kossior was awarded the Order of Lenin and numerous other medals.
