history

Old club logo from Ipatinga FC

The history of the club began when a number of local businessmen took over Novo Cruzeiro FC from the suburb of the same name in 1998 and renamed it Ipatinga FC . The club logo is similar to that of the previous club.

The club's rapid ascent soon began. First highlight was winning the 2005 and Campeonato Mineiro called Campeonato Mineiro . In the finals, Ipatinga retained the upper hand against the two-time Copa Libertadores winner Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte from the state capital Belo Horizonte . In the following year, Cruzeiro was able to return the favor at Ipatinga when they met again in the state finals. In 2006 Ipatinga reached the semi-finals of the Brazilian Cup .

Between 2005 and 2007, Ipatinga managed to march through from Série C to Série A , Brazil's top division, at the national level , although the club immediately fell back as the relegated bottom of the table. In 2010 Ipatinga was relegated to the Série C, but managed to get promoted again immediately. In the 2012 season, however, they rose again.

For the 2013 season the club moved to the larger town of Betim and was renamed Betim Esporte Clube . The club's logo remained largely the same, only the lettering was changed from IFC to BETIM .

After moving to Betim, the team will compete in the Estádio Joaquim Henrique Nogueira in Sete Lagoas, also known as the Arena do Jacaré or Nogueirão . The stadium, which was built in 2006 and renovated in 2010, currently holds around 18,000 spectators.
