National Championship of Minas Gerais (women's football)
The national championship of Minas Gerais for women's football ( Portuguese Campeonato Mineiro de Futebol Feminino ) is the club championship in women's football of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil , which has been held since 2005 by the Federação Mineira de Futebol (FMF) .
history
Of the major centers of Brazilian football, the state of Minas Gerais only established a championship for women's football relatively late in 2005. From the beginning it has only received little public response and its sporting value has remained at an amateur level. Of the major clubs from the capital, Belo Horizonte , only Atlético Mineiro has participated with its own team. The first title was won by the small capital club AE Tupinambás against the União EC from Timóteo . After Atlético soon assumed dominance, as expected, the club dissolved its women's team after a period of success in 2012 for financial reasons. His place has been taken by local rival América Mineiro , who entered women's football in 2015 and currently has the most professionally run women's team in the state. In the 2017 season, nine clubs took part in the championship. In the 2019 season, the Cruzeiro EC entered the competition or Atlético returned to it.
Qualification for the Copa do Brasil Feminino has been decided on the national championship since 2007 and qualification for the second division (Série A2) of the Brazilian championship since 2017 .
