State Championship of Pará (women's football)
The state championship of Pará for women's football ( Portuguese Campeonato Paraense de Futebol Feminino ) is the club championship in women's football of the state of Pará in Brazil , which has been held with interruptions since 1983 by the Federação Paraense de Futebol (FPF) .
history
The oldest evidence of the practice of football by women in the Amazon state Pará goes back to the twenties of the 20th century. But it was not until 1979 that the legal ban on organizing this sport as a club was lifted that competitions for women could be organized. As one of the first states in Brazil, the national association of Pará hosted a national championship in 1983 in which twelve clubs with women's teams competed, including the traditional clubs from the state capital Belém Paysandu SC , Clube do Remo and Tuna Luso . The championship was decided in a final game on December 17, 1983 by the 1-0 victory Remos over his arch-rival Paysandu. The 1983 championship was to be the last for more than a decade. The competition has only been held regularly since 1999, with a two-year break.
The level of play in women's football in Pará is in the amateur field in a national comparison and is also largely outside the public eye. In the 2016 season, seven clubs took part in the state championship, compared to nine in 2017. Notable among them is the lower-class Pinheirense EC , who entered women's football in 2009 with ambitions to establish himself at the top of the national league .
Qualification for the Copa do Brasil Feminino has been decided via the state championship since 2007 . The same has been true for the second division (Série A2) of the Brazilian championship since the 2017 season .
