Ipomoea ophiodes is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in Guatemala and El Salvador .

description

Ipomoea ophiodes is a small, herbaceous , densely hairy climbing plant with long, protruding, bristle trichomes , the stems of which often grow prostrate and then take root at the nodes . The internodes are elongated. The leaves have long stalks , the leaf blades are heart-shaped, oval, 4 to 10 cm long and 3 to 6.5 cm wide, the upper side is hairy with short bristles, the underside is finely haired, only sparsely bristly and slightly lighter than the upper side. They are pointed or tapered towards the front.

The inflorescences consist of a single flower , the inflorescence stalks are barely 1 cm long, the slender flower stalks are 2.5 to 3.5 cm long, finely haired and very sparsely bristly. The sepals are almost the same shape, almost herbaceous and 12 mm long. They are linear-lanceolate, pointed and sparsely covered with long bristle hairs. The crown is deep purple, hairless and 8 to 9 cm long, the coronet has a diameter of 8 cm.

distribution

The species is widespread in Guatemala and El Salvador , in Ecuador and Peru and occurs there in damp thickets and forests at altitudes between 200 and 400 m.

Systematics

Within the genus of morning glories ( Ipomoea ), the species is classified in the section Eriospermum in the sub- genus of the same name Eriospermum , a more precise classification into a series has not been made.
