Ipomoea phil omega is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in America and the West Indies .

description

Ipomoea philomega is a liana that lignifies in the lower part and becomes bald . The leaf blades are rounded-heart-shaped, 8 to 20 cm wide and about the same length. Towards the front they are pointed or pointed, the base is heart-shaped. The underside of the leaf is tomentose along the veins, but this can also be lost.

The flowers are in clusters. The sepals are broadly ovate, 15 to 18 mm long, blunt to almost pointed, often turning purple when drying and tomentose hairy to balding. The crown is colored purple, the throat is darker colored. It has a length of 5 to 8 cm.

The fruits are almost spherical, hairless capsules with a diameter of 1 cm. The seeds are hairy in lumps.

distribution

The distribution area extends from southern Mexico to tropical South America and occurs there in two varieties. The species is distributed from British Honduras and Guatemala to Guyana and Peru , as well as on the West Indies .

  • Ipomoea philomega var. Marowynensis Ooststr. : It occurs from French Guiana to Suriname.
  • Ipomoea philomega var. Philomega : It occurs from southern Mexico to tropical America.
