Ipomoea steudelii is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in Puerto Rico .

description

Ipomoea steudelii is a slender climber whose stems are hairless and can be up to 4 m long. The leaves are small and very variable in shape. The leaf blade can be ovate to almost circular in outline, 0.5 to 2 cm long, with entire margins, curved, inverted heart-shaped, two- or four-lobed. The lobes are ovate to elongated or linear and blunt. The leaf base is heart-shaped or rounded.

The inflorescences consist of one to four flowers . The inflorescence stalks are short and strong. The sepals are ovate, rounded and about 6 mm long. The crown is 3 to 4 cm long, colored red, pink, lavender, purple or white and plate-shaped. The protruding coronet is covered with short, rounded lobes.

The fruits are egg-shaped, 10 to 15 mm long capsules . The seeds are hairy with long wool.

distribution

The species is distributed in the southern and western parts of Puerto Rico and on the islands of Vieques and Culebra , which are part of Puerto Rico . Occurrences on Hispaniola are doubtful, plants found on the Virgin Islands , Anguilla and St. Martin probably belonged to Ipomoea eggersiana .

The plants grow in dry thickets at low and medium altitudes.
