Irena Kukutz

Irena Kukutz (born August 20, 1950 in Parchau ) is a German politician, artist and publicist.

Life

She completed an apprenticeship as a concrete worker in the GDR . After graduating from high school, she studied at the Berlin Art Academy from 1969 to 1974, then worked as a freelance ceramicist . Together with Bärbel Bohley and Ulrike Poppe , she initiated the network Women for Peace in East Berlin in 1982 , and was temporarily imprisoned by the Ministry for State Security . In autumn 1989 she took part in the networking of the citizens' movement Neues Forum , and represented them at the central women's political round table .

After reunification , she was a member of the “New Forum / Citizens Movement” group in the Berlin House of Representatives from 1991 to 1995 . She works as a research assistant in the Robert Havemann Society and has published several books on the history of the GDR opposition .
